What I like eating for my polish breakfast

My polish breakfast

Dzien dobry, is what a typical Polish person would say at 10 a.m. on a lazy Sunday morning. Today I would like to share with you some ideas for a tasty breakfast with freshly baked bread and my two favorite polish bread spread recipes.

A word about the Polish cuisine

Polish cuisine has a long tradition and throughout centuries has been influenced by the culinary customs of different nations. Traditional food is rich in various kinds of meat, especially pork, chicken and beef. Soups are very popular, made with vegetables, broth, beets, and many other ingredients. Vegetables are in common use, among which cabbage, raw and fermented “Sauerkraut”, is probably the most famous. Polish cuisine includes different kinds of dumplings and noodles, the most popular of which are “pierogi” and “kluski”. And of course, there is no need to mention the excellent traditional bread and delicious sausages. A polish breakfast often consists of a sweet bun, called “drozdzowka”, which can be with different fillings – marmalade, poppy seed or vanilla pudding. On the other hand, there are many different spread recipes for bread, that mainly consists of eggs, cheese, and vegetables. The main meal of the day is generally eaten about 2 pm or in the early afternoon. Traditionally, it is composed of three courses: starting with a soup, followed by the main course usually including a serving of meat, vegetables or salads, and potatoes, rice or groats. Pastries and cakes are traditional types of dessert.

Ingredients for 2 Person:

  1. Breakfast egg spread with fresh spring onion:
  • 2 hard-boiled eggs
  • 2 spoons of mayonnaise
  • one spoon of mustard
  • one spoon of fresh yogurt
  • a little bit of fresh spring onion
  • a little bit of cheese
  • salt and pepper

You need to boil the eggs until they are hard- boiled. Now leave them in cold water to cool down. Afterward, you can put them in a bowl together with the mayonnaise, mustard, yogurt, salt, and pepper and mix all ingredients for 3 minutes. Now you can add some of the grated cheese, sliced spring onion and your polish breakfast spread #1 is ready!

    2. Breakfast cottage cheese – yogurt spread with fresh radishes and pepper

  • 100 g of cottage cheese
  • 4 spoons of yogurt
  • 1/4 red or yellow pepper
  • 4 -5 radishes
  • salt and pepper

Wash the pepper and radishes. Cut the pepper in small pieces and grate the radishes. Put the vegetables with all the other ingredients in a bowl and mix them with a spoon. Your second breakfast spread for bread is also ready.

Now your breakfast is almost ready. You can use butter for your slice of bread if you like, but it also tastes good without.

Enjoy your breakfast and let me know in comments how you did like the recipes 😀 Do you have different recipes that you would like me to try out?
